Galston stands on the Ayrshire road from New Cumnock to Glasgow, 4 miles from Kilmarnock. Its population of 5200 forms a strong local community despite the loss of the traditional textile and mining industries which saw the town grow around Barr Castle in the 18th and 19th centuries. Galston has a rich history with links to William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, and strong ties to the Covenanters movement. Today Galston has diversified into industries as varied as telecoms, haulage and engineering. Local youngsters attend Loudon Academy, and other major local attractions include Loudon Castle theme park, Loudon Gowf Club and Galston Parish Church. s1galston.com has been developed to allow residents to share their news, views and opinions, publicise events and display photos and videos.
