Memorial to 1797 event when 'Tree of Liberty' a Robert Burns patriotic poem was used to express the anti war feelings of young Galston men of the Auld Alliance.

Placed in front of Loudoun Academy.Spring 1977,the 180th anniversary of that day of David v's Goliath.

March 21st,the 212th anniversary will be celebrated with the poem,water of Saint Mary Well and Hawthorn.

Tree and Water the inspiration for Head stone.

Spring 2009. Tree of Liberty spoken,Water of Saint Mary Well offered,picture of Hawthorn placed. Lines like these never lose their significance :- 'Wi' plenty o' sic trees,I trow, The World would live in Peace, The sword would help to mak a Plough' The din o'war wad cease.' Thanks be to the poet who wrote these words. Sunday 21st March 2010. 213th PeaceOneDay event.

An outcome from Sunday is a further memory of a tree near water.

On the Irvine near Elerslie, a hawthorn called 'Bickering Bush'.Lost since the 19th century.

Head stone symbolizes an event lost in folklore, where a young Ayrshire man used a tree branch to defend freedom. The 'Tree of Liberty',in late 13th century Scotland.
