Saint Anne Bridge, Bridge Street A719 Galston
In 2008 S.E.P.A. activated their plan to flood defence the Irvine, Kelvin and Clyde. This led to the bridge in Galston having the South side altered to accomodate the concrete channel lining the Saint Anne river.
After the South side was removed a concrete wall was cast, the Sandstone was then applied to this. The South side is now higher than the North side.
Saint Anne Bridge is in every map I have seen which leads me to think the bridging of this river could date to the 11th Century.
Amazingly the bridge has withstood the increasing volume of traffic and now with concrete reinforcing will last for many years to come.
I wonder why S.E.P.A. did not place an inscribed stone on such an ancient useful structure perhaps we should contact Historic Scotland and have the bridge listed.
