Crossroads Primary School Consultation: What do we think?

Have you had a look at East Ayrshire Council's Consultation Document for Crossroads Primary School yet? There does not appear to be much information in the town. What does Galston Primary School think?

The consultation will run until close of business on 26 March.

Background:

East Ayrshire Council's executive committee has approved plans for a consultation that will consider the closure of Crossroads Primary, the 52-pupil school near Kilmarnock. If the plan goes ahead, pupils will be sent to Galston Primary, nearly three miles away.

Councillors considered the way forward for Crossroads Primary at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 16 December 2009. It was agreed that, based on the financial and technical information currently available, there was a case to hold a public consultation which will consider the wider issues as they relate to the school.

Amongst the options were: a refurbishment of the school, a new-build school, relocation to another site and closure with transfer of pupils to nearby new-build Galston Primary. These options will be included in the public consultation exercise which will be held in the New Year.

I think i'ts terrible that the council is trying to close the school again only two years after the last time. They say it's about money but it has been shown that the council will be WORSE off if they close Crossroads. Losing government money for rural schools etc.
And the council also seem to have forgotten the fact that there was £260,000 put aside for repairs two years ago which wasn't spent. Where did that go?
Their argument is full of clever number crunching to make it look like the "right" thing to do when in fact it is being shown more each day to be far from the right thing.
