'Galston Mining Memories'
6 FebruaryIn conjunction with this account of what was a major industry in this area for around 80 years, a permanent memorial to those who lost their lives 'Below the Streets of Galston', which takes the form of a bronze plaque inserted on a large rough hewn whin boulder, has been prepared for installation and dedication in Barr Street Gardens, on a date (yet to be finalised) in May, 2009. Further information will - in due course - be published on this website.
If you have any information or photographs relating to local mines, or details of family members who died in coal-mining accidents, please contact John Connell (tel: 01563 821279 or e-mail: alplace@waitrose.com).
