Local jobs go as Loudon Castle theme park closes

  • Loudon Castle theme park has closed its doors this week

One of Galston's most prominent landmarks closed its doors this week, as Loudon Castle theme park was shut by its Dutch owner with the loss of 11 full-time staff and 160 seasonal jobs.

The park, which opened in 1995, has been one of the area's best-known attractions, but its owners took the move after deciding the business was no longer viable.

Eight staff have been retained at the park while the owners decide on a new direction.

there could be a possible caravan park which would be good for galston with the stunning country side this could be a permanent site with all the mod cons of a park

With all the rain the trees are looking amazing.

As I arrive home after dark I notice the Castle is lit.

Unfortunately when lower down the trees obscure this.

I have taken it upon myself to mention to a friend who has mobile homes and caravans to look into the feasibility of what George says.

I have also contacted VisitScotland to alert them to all the signs which will bring people who have not phoned or looked on the internet to the closed gates.

A friend of mine has also pointed out that just looking at the park from the other side of the valley is satisfying.

Perhaps a voluntary walking tour would give the unemployed people something to keep their interest up.

The owners seem to be out of the country at present and I worry that with the current climate they will see no good reason to return.

End of March today, still no news regarding the future of this important place.Parkware Ltd. main telephone number is off, their fax number takes a message only.

Loudoun Castle telephone and website say thankyou but closed.

Using my mind's eye vision from the Clinchyard Mount, I realise renaming as ' World of Lady Flora ' might give the area a new boost.

Everything including our Lady's trip to London could be included in World of Lady Flora.

I have sent an e ~ mail to who I think cares and also contacted D.C.Thomson to ask their advice.

Only time will tell and like the Loudoun motto ' bide ' is all there is to do at present.

Needless to say the park looks as good today as the day it closed.

Lights are on again tonight. Look's like the power hasn't been cut off for April Fool's Morn.

Alex Christie says

Sent proposal to D.C. Thomson after their article in the Scots magazine this Spring.

There is more to Loudoun Castle Country Park than ' Closed '.

Dean Castle Country Park and the 29th of May 2011 for example.

Loudoun Castle Country Park could host a similar event the week after. Simply open the gates and they will want to visit again. The avenue is perfect for a parade. See www.futuremuseum.co.uk for a look at how the parade could start. We have all the people, horses and creativity. What are we waiting for ? 2011 is as good a time as any. It is heart breaking to see the large car park empty during this lovely spell of weather. Who is running this project ? Can they please pull up their socks and make a success of this jewel of Ayrshire's treasures.

Alex Christie says

13th of November. Lights are still on in the evening.Photograph of front in 2012 calendar. Road signs around Ayrshire indicate where Loudoun Castle is to visitors. All these are promotional and beneficial to River Irvine Valley Way, Muirkirk Diamond and Central Scotland Green Network. Try phoning to organise a visit.
