New year step forward for Galston regeneration project

Galston’s regeneration is taking a big step forward in the New Year when the new Galston Community Development Trust will meet to approve its constitution and register as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Institution.

The Tuesday 24th January 2012 meeting is the culmination of months of meetings and planning aimed at giving the people of Galston to get involved in shaping the future of their town.

A steering group comprising community representatives, selected by the community was set up in September and was supported by East Ayrshire Council officials. They have formulated a constitution, code of conduct and an outline activities plan for the Community Development Trust. The new Trust will formally approve these plans which will then be submitted to the charities regulator, OSCR for official approval. This process can take up to three months.

In the meantime the new Trust will have a full agenda.  The steering group is already planning a series of events to determine what kind of regeneration projects residents and traders wish to see in the town. The results of the community engagement will provide the basis for a master plan of future projects. These priority projects will have the potential to attract funding from bodies such as the Lottery and Scottish Natural Heritage.

Membership of the Trust is free and open to anyone who lives or works in Galston or supports the aims of the development trust. If you are interested in becoming a member and attending the meetings contact Sylvia Allen on 01563 578168 or Colin McKee on 01563 576759.

Alex Christie says

Clear all the areas which currently have either weeds or concrete causing an eyesore.

Ask all the groups, forums and trusts in and around Galston to give a list of needs and wants which relate to the Central Scotland Green Network and Sustrans visions which have been given in 2009 & 2011. ( Both are available online ).

Year of Creativity as announced by Creative Scotland will make a huge difference to Ayrshire. Love Ayrshire will officially start on the 14th of February 2012. Galston's Christmas Market is an example of what will be a more regular event in future years.

Surprisingly the future is bright for Galston.

Plans for an online Pictorial Heritage / History IV are in progress and any pictures or stories which are not in the previous three can be sent primarily to s1 Galston.
